Distance learning, also called distance education, e-learning, and online learning, is a form of education in which the main elements include physical separation of teachers and students during instruction and the use of various technologies to facilitate student-teacher and student-student communication.
Tips to Support Virtual Learning
- Ensure your child checks his/her email twice a day.
- Create a learning space for your scholar.
- Consistent designated space
- Pens, pencils, binder, and paper
- Ensure that their schedule is visible and review daily.
- Check your child’s agenda book daily
- Reach out to your scholar’s teachers with questions or support.
Gmail
PARENT CHECK: Once a day
- Send and receive email
- Communicate with their teachers or administrators
- Receive calendar invites for classes, office hours, and different events
- EMAIL: FirstName.LastName@students.paulcharter.org
Google Classroom
PARENT CHECK: Once a day
Scholars use Google Classroom to:
- Access the link for live instruction
- See announcements from their teacher
- Access all work assignments for the classroom
- Submit work assignments for class
Google Calendar
PARENT CHECK: Twice a day
Scholars will use Google Calendar to:
- Access the links for their live instruction classroom
- Students will receive calendar invites that they will need to accept
- Click the ‘TODAY’ button near the top right of the screen will give scholars access to their live classes for that date.
Zoom or Google Meet
PARENT CHECK: Once a day
Scholars will use Zoom or Google Meet to:
- Attend their live class sessions daily
- Attend office hours, town halls, resource center, or after school activities
- Links to access live classes are at the top left hand corner of their assigned Google Classroom Page
- Expectations:
- Teachers will set live classroom expectations
- Microphones should be muted unless asked to engage
- Cameras need to be on
- Use of chat box needs to be respectful
