NEW! Virtual Attendance Policy & Important Dates

During the Virtual Learning Model, 6-8 grade teachers will continue to empower scholars through personalized learning and solution-based critical thinking skills. Through ZOOM and Google Classroom, middle school scholars will connect their daily subjects with the world beyond their fingertips.

The Paul PCS Virtual Model encompasses 3-4 scheduled classes each day that begin with Homeroom. The Virtual Model has a 45-minute scheduled lunch time with scheduled office hours and Virtual Clubs in the afternoon.

Interim Exams for Math and ELA will begin the week of Monday, October 19, 2020 through Thursday, October 22, 2020. All scholars must attend every class, including Office Hours, over the next two weeks to fully prepare for these assessments. Please be advised of the following dates:
  • Monday, October 12 through Monday, October 19
Social Studies and Science End of Unit Exams for all scholars (grades 6-12)
  • Wednesday, October 14
SAT Administration for Seniors on-site
Asynchronous Learning Day for grades 6 through 11. Scholars will not have live teacher-led instruction, but will be sent assignments for completion.
  • Monday, October 19 through Wednesday, October 21
ELA and Math Interim Exams for PIHS
  • Tuesday, October 20 and Wednesday, October 21
ELA and Math Interim Exams for Paul PCS Middle School
  • Thursday, October 22
Make-up Testing for scholars who were absent during Interim Exams (10/19- 10/22).
Asynchronous Learning Day for all other scholars will not have live teacher-led instruction, but will be sent assignments for completion.
  • Election Day on Tuesday, November 3
Asynchronous Learning Day for all other scholars to ensure that families have availability to vote. There will be no live teacher-led instruction, and scholars will be sent assignments for completion.
  • Friday, December 11
Asynchronous Learning Day for grades 6 through 12. Scholars will not have live teacher-led instruction, but will be sent assignments for completion.
  • Friday, January 15
Asynchronous Learning Day for grades 6 through 12. Scholars will not have live teacher-led instruction, but will be sent assignments for completion.

Scholars are required to attend all virtual learning classes and additional sessions daily. Teachers will take attendance in the first 5 minutes of class and the last 5 minutes. Procedure allows teachers to monitor whether or not a scholar attended the entire class. Scholars must be engaged in the lesson and participating to be considered present for the class.

Note: Administration will contact you immediately if your child is marked absent for a class period.

VIRTUAL EXPECTATIONS

As we embark upon this new school year, we expect scholars to follow certain virtual norms during distance learning:

  • Scholars must report to each virtual class on time
  • Scholars must have their cameras on and microphone muted
  • Scholars must be sitting in Scholar position at a table, i.e kitchen table, desk, or dining room table. Scholars cannot be in bed, while in class!
  • Scholar must use chat box appropriately; the chat box is used for academic discourse
  • Scholar must wear Paul Polo or Oxford Shirt

Number of Absences Resulting Actions
5 to 9 absences (excused or unexcused) in an advisory period
  • Schedule a mandatory truancy conference with the parent or primary guardian of the student.
  • Lower grade by one full letter if the scholars amasses 5 absences
  • Exception- Validated Documents (Physician’s Note, Court Agency, etc.) 
10 unexcused absences (over any period of time)
  • Refer to Child and Family Service Agency (CFSA) and the Truancy Division for Educational Neglect and Truancy.  Note: District of Columbia law requires the school to refer to CFSA any student age 5-13 years within 2 business days after 10 unexcused absences
  • Student’s age 14-18 will be coded and reported as “truant”
