MS Dean of Academics

Job Description

The Academic Dean provides the instructional, operational, and administrative leadership necessary to ensure the success of the middle school.  S(he) is responsible for creating and maintaining a positive, engaging, and safe learning environment for our middle school students.  S(he) provides vision, leadership, and coordination of the instructional program throughout the middle school. S(he) promotes the educational development of all students and the professional development of all staff within the sixth and seventh grades.  The Academic Dean provides the leadership and vision for the Paul Prep Program to ensure a smooth and effective transition for sixth graders into middle school. S(he) provides leadership for the academic interventions within the middle school, including, but not limited to, tutoring services, supplemental services, SMART Saturday, and interventions identified by the Student Support Team (SSP). The Academic Dean will be the parent liaison and works collaboratively with Family Engagement Team to ensure that we are meeting and/or exceeding our family engagement goals.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Leadership Team to develop curricula and academic programs for the middle school.
  • Provide instructional support and leadership for the middle school teachers.
  • Provide support to middle school teachers to ensure successful functioning and implementation of curricula and educational programs.
  • Monitor and evaluate the implementation of initiatives and programs within the middle school.
  • Assist the Leadership Team in developing school-wide/organizational improvement plans and initiatives.
  • Ensure the implementation of school-wide goals and initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain the structure and culture of the Paul Prep Program for the purpose of increasing student achievement and fostering positive school culture within the sixth grade.
  • Manage the master schedule and develop individual schedules for scholars.
  • Coordinate the logistics for all high stakes testing.
  • Ensure positive and ongoing parent involvement within the middle school.
  • Assist with the Student Support Team (SST) to ensure that students receive academic interventions.
  • Support the academic interventions as the administrative lead and liaison for the SMART Saturday Program, Tutoring Program, and Supplemental Educational Services.
  • Supervise the SMART Saturday Program Coordinator.
  • Assist with the planning, developing, and facilitating of professional development for the whole school.
  • Actively monitor student data to make informed decisions for the interest of the students within the school.
  • Ensures that the faculty and students within the middle school are dedicated to the mission of Paul PCS.
  • Work on school-wide committees to plan, problem solve, and support school goals.
  • Participate in professional development and training.
  • Attend and participate in staff and other school activities & meetings, as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Core Requisites:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited university preferably in reading, math or educational  administration or equivalent experience (preferred)
  • Five years classroom teaching, or education administration experience (or a combination of both)
  • Experience in designing/conducting in-services, workshops, and other types of professional development
  • Experience in providing instructional coaching and/or support
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate excellent computer literacy skills and technology awareness
  • Possess ability to work in collaborative manner with all constituents of the school: teachers, administrative staff, board of trustees, students, parents and others
  • Fluency in Spanish desired
