May 2021

Dear Paul PCS families and caretakers:

Per the directive of Mayor Bower, Paul Public Charter School is pleased to announce the reopening of our school building for in-person, classroom-based learning for School Year 2021-2022. Under the guidance of Mayor Bowser and the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education, all schools must return to in-person learning for all scholars five days a week. Extended day programming and athletics will fully resume, as well, next year; more details regarding these programs will be forthcoming in June.

SY21-22 Schooling Model

The SY21-22 School Model has a virtually-based, distance learning optional to support strong student outcomes for children who are medically exempted from in-person learning. Distance learning will only be available to students who submit a standardized medical certification form completed by a licensed physician. The medical form and additional guidance on completion and submission is forthcoming. If this formal documentation is not provided, your child will be enrolled for in-person learning and will be marked absent if he/she does not report in-person.  Moreover, we are bound to follow the city’s mandated truancy protocol if he/she does not attend. Please click on this link to complete our Distance Learning Eligibility SY 21-22 Survey.

As we transition into this exciting reunification stage this summer and autumn, we will continue to execute the many safety procedures and protocols that we have refined this year to keep scholars and staff safe. Our reopening plan aligns with standards set by District of Columbia Health, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and neighboring counties and their respective departments of public health.  Our plan is evolving with built-in flexibility to reflect the daily needs of our population.

Enrollment is in full swing for next year and seats are going fast – we are already over 50% fully enrolled for next year. Please contact our registration office at enrollment@paulcharter.org to check your enrollment status, and finish your new/returning school registration forms, including required documents for DC proof of residency. Families who do not complete full enrollment by the end of May 2021 will risk losing their seat entirely at Paul next year. Do not delay – the building is open for walk-in enrollment assistance Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30am to 3:30pm and on Saturday, May 15, 2021 from 10:00am to 2:00pm.

We cannot wait to reconnect – if you have questions, comments or concerns please direct them to your Paul school leaders, Principal Walker (swalker@paulcharter.org – Paul PCS Middle School) and Mrs. Olorunoje (solorunoje@paulcharter.org – Paul International High School).

In service,

Dr. Tracy Wright
